NORRIS DAY – 4TH OF JULY CELEBRATION
GAMES, ENTERTAINMENT AND ACTIVITIES
Norris Day was even greater fun this year, with an expanded array of booths and a wider participation in the events that have become so familiar.
The sack race is always fun, for tjose who can still fit into a sack.
The schedule for the day was as follows:
8:30 a.m. NORRIS FIRECRACKER ROAD RUN for ages 6 and up- Six prizes – Begins on the Commons
8:30 REGISTER FOR THE KIDS’ DOG SHOW - Kids must be between 4 and 14 years old to show their dogs. Dogs in “Smallest Dog” category must be over 6 months old. – On the Commons, near the library
9:00 POSTING OF THE COLORS
9:10 KIDS’ DOG SHOW BEGINS– Awards given for “Best Behaved,” “Best Dressed,” “Best Trick,” “Smallest Dog,” “Largest Dog,” “Best Looking,” and “Best in Show”
10:00 DUCK RACE - Sponsored by the Anderson County High School Leos – Norris Middle School lawn – Each winner receives a watermelon!
10:00 – 2:00 p.m. INFLATABLES – Norris Middle School lawn
10:00 – 3:00 p.m. WATER SLIDE – Norris Middle School lawn
10:00 REGISTER FOR THE FUN RUN – On the street, in front of Norris Middle School
10:30 1- MILE FUN RUN – Divisions include ages 6 & Under, 7 – 10 year-olds, 11 – 15 year-olds, and ages 16 & over. First, second and third place winners in each division need to remain for a photo shoot!
11:00 MANY-WHEEL RACES – Including such as tricycles, big wheels, wheel chairs, and bikes with training wheels in these divisions: 2 year-olds, 3 year-olds, 4 year-olds, 5 year-olds and 6 year-olds. Two-wheel race for 7 year-olds & under will follow the many-wheel races. – On the street, in front of Norris Middle School
11:30 DECORATED BICYCLE PARADES for 6 year-olds & under and 7 year-olds & up
(Parents-- The Judges love bikes decorated by the children themselves! Encourage your children’s creative efforts and enjoy the results!) On the street, in front of Norris Middle School
12:15 p.m. SACK RACES for individuals in these divisions: 6-year-olds & under, 7 – 10 year-olds, 11 – 15 year-olds, Adult & Child, Adult & Adult – On the Commons
12:45 WATER-BALLOON TOSS – All ages –On the Commons:
1:30 FREEDOM POLE CEREMONY provided by Lynn Fox – In front of Middle School
2:00 WATER-BALL BATTLES ($1.00 for individuals, $5.00 for teams) – On the Commons
5:45 EVENING PROGRAM – Norris Day Honors Judy Ridge
7:00 CONCERT ON THE COMMONS - featuring Alex Guthrie

The barbecue dinner in the Middle School cafeteria is
always a welcome opportunity to meet neighbors and
other friende while enjoying great food. As usual,
the menu included smoked chicken or pork, coleslaw,
baked beans, a roll, and a drink.
