In 1956, twenty six residents of the relatively new city of Norris, Tennessee, established a local community service club when the International Association of Lions Clubs delivered a Charter for the Norris Lions Club. Some of the community questioned whether the new organization would survive. The doubters' skepticism arose because they overlooked one fundamental goal of the charter members and the many members who followed -- they possessed a genuine desire to help others.
